My journalism career began on a daily newspaper in Davenport, Iowa, where I spent five years as a reporter, feature editor and photographer.

Following that phase of my career I produced photography for corporations while my articles and features appeared in, among others, The Des Moines Register, Ebony magazine, The Milwaukee Journal, Editor & Publisher, America Illustrated, Business Abroad (Dunn & Bradstreet) and Chicago Magazine.

My photojournalism has received many AP and UPI news awards and I was for many years a member of UPI’’s elite Signature Group. My work has appeared internationally in publications that include Life, Ebony, Newsweek, Vogue, Paris Match and publications of The U.S.Information Agency as well as on PBS and ABC.

For several years I published the Evanston (Ill.) Clarion, a groundbreaking local newspaper, to give broader representation to Evanston’s minority communities.

I have taught and lectured at Northwestern and Columbia College (Chi.) and lectured at a number of Universities including American U., Notre Dame, The U. of Washington and DePaul.
